Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek'
Alocasia 'Frydek' - Green Velvet Alocasia
Alocasia is a family of hybrids originating in South East Asia, commonly known as the 'Elephant Ear'. The 'Green Velvet' has arrow shaped lush green leaves that look like velvet with striking contrasting veins. Native to South East Asia, this stunning rare plant is best grown in a greenhouse where good humidity can be maintained.
The 'Green Velvet' Alocasia enjoys bright, humid conditions but keep out of direct sunlight. Water thoroughly during summer when topsoil becomes dry to touch and plant in fast draining soil, fertilizing with a diluted feed every two weeks during growing season. Cut right back on water and fertlizer during winter. A terracotta or clay pot will help ensure that soil is not too wet and repot every 2 years once mature. Mist regularly to maintain humidity.
