Asplenium nidus

Bird's Nest Fern (M)

$24.95

Asplenium nidus makes a lovely indoor plant, with its gentle curved leaves growing outwards from the centre. It gets its common name 'Birds Nest Fern' from its tendency to grow on trees, forming a little shape like a birds nest when young. If you're ever out bushwalking in Australia, keep an eye upwards, as you can spot them in all kinds of places! Given ideal conditions, it can grow to an impressive size. It thrives in more humid conditions, as if it were under the tree canopy, so will be happy in a pot or hanger by a bathroom or kitchen window. You'll love seeing new tendrils unfurl in the centre in a fern-like fashion as it grows, forming lush green foliage.

CARE TIPS

Keep the soil just moist throughout the growing seasons, even during the colder months, and avoid draughts. The Birds Nest Fern develops best between bright indirect to filtered light conditions, and should enjoy soft early morning sun. Grow the plant in well drained soil and water moderately without leaving the roots sitting in water. Water the soil rather than the plant. Mist frequently if the fern is located in a drier environment.
