Aloe perfoliata - Mitre or Rubble Aloe (S)
Made up of rosettes formed by thick, fleshy, pointed leaves, Aloe perfoliata is a solid mid-green with slightly serrated edges bordering each leaf in a light cream colour. It is an attractive colour variation of the classic Aloe shape, without the characteristic speckle pattern, and with teeth like bumps on the underside of its leaves. A smaller Aloe, it would look very sweet in a small pot by a bright window, or collected en masse in a shallow rocky garden bed where it can spread out. Like all aloes, it is drought tolerant, holding water in its juicy leaves, making it easy to care for. Though it is a slow grower, given time and care, it can sprout little Aloe pups - what a delight!
Aloe perfoliata can tolerate a range of lighting, between full sun, to filtered light, but it must see the sky to thrive. Position Aloe under full sun during colder months for less harsh conditions, and partial shade to filtered light during the hot summer. Expect slight colour changes depending on sun exposure - a pinky-red hue means it is getting a little too hot and dry. Watering is the same for every other succulent: allow the soil to completely dry up before giving your Aloe a deep soak.
Allow soil to dry between watering.
