Nepenthes - 'Pitcher Plant' (Premium)
Nepenthes is a genus of carnivorous plants native to South-East Asia, Madagascar, India, and Australia. A woody stemmed vine, Nepenthes leaves develop tendrils at the tip that attach to anything that will support it and allow it to climb. The tendril tip swells and develops into a pitcher, containing a digestive fluid that attracts insects. There are many species of Nepenthes, each sporting a unique pitcher shape and variety of colours.
Nepenthes require bright indirect or filtered light, and must be kept moist at all times. In warm climates the pitchers should be kept 1/3 full of water to avoid them drying out and dying. Nepenthes thrive in humid envorinmets, so do well in bathrooms, greenhouses or ferneries, and require frequent mistingduring the warmer months. Because they catch their ow food there is little need to fertilise your nepenthes. If you feel your nepenthes is not catching any insects on its own, you can hand feed insects, or add a liquid or slow release fertiliser at quarter strength.
