Calathea makoyana
Calathea makoyana - 'Peacock Plant' (S)
Calathea Makoyana or the Peacock Plant gets its name from its striking leaf patterns, resembling peacock feathers. Whilst it produces clusters of small white flowers in spring and summer it is mainly grown for its decorative leaf patterns and colour. It is suitable for a shaded spot or as an under story plant in a garden and is perfect for any aspiring home gardener.
CARE TIPS
Avoid direct sunlight to keep leaves vibrant. Will tolerate low light conditions but best in medium indirect or filtered light conditions. Prefers humid conditions. Keep soil always moist. Mist regularly but use distilled or rainwater as fluoride in tap water can damage the leaves.
